KitchenAid dishwasher has problem taking in water

Several weeks ago our 4 or 5 year old KitchenAid dishwasher was not taking in water until it was pulled out from the cabinet, then it ran fine. It was pushed back in MOST of the way in, but not all.....trouble getting it back in with the insulation material not staying on the unit. We left it and have run it like this (it was sticking out only an inch or so) for several weeks and it ran fine and last night, the water again would not come in until it was pulled out and then ran fine. Could it be a tube that is crimped and if so, how can we possible make sure it isn't when pushing it back under the cabinet? The trouble shooting guide instructs to check the "overfill protection float", if it's able to move up and down freely. Why would this even be an issue at the start of the cycle when there's no water at all in the unit to begin with?  Looking forward to hearing from you.
