Dishwasher constantly fills with water

Appliance Repair QuestionsCategory: DishwashersDishwasher constantly fills with water

Our dishwasher was stopped during a rise cycle and now it wont stop filling. Its built into our counter making it difficult to access. Done some research and seems like it may be the float arm that is stuck and it will not stop filling whether power is on or off. It does drain if we run the machine. How can i make it stop filling or at least shut of the water?

You most likely have a stuck float switch. It is the little part in the bottom front left of the dishwasher. If the microswitch is stuck closed, this switch sends a signal to the water inlet valve to keep filling with water. Turn the water off which is probably located under your kitchen sink. Once water is off, check the float switch to be sure it is in working order and nothing is keeping the float pushed downward. You may also have an issue with the water inlet valve. The valve may be stuck in the open position and therefore constant water is filling your dishwasher.
