I have it turned on to actually heat up and dry my dishes off once the washing is complete. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this myself??

Check to see that the heating rods (elements) in the bottom of your dishwasher work properly. You can test for continuity. If they are ok you will need to test or replace the control board or button that controls the heat on off.
