The water heater is above my dryer in my apt. The water heater was leaking water and it went into the lint tray and now my dryer will not heat up. Is it due to water damage or could it be something else?

Yes the problem is the water that leaked into the dryer. How recent did this happen? Did you allow the dryer time to dry out? Does the dryer run and tumble like normal but you are just NOT getting heat? If you live in an apt doesn't the apt managing company fix this type of thing? If the dryer will not heat up but it does run and tumble, then most likely you have a thermal fuse that may be bad or a shorted wire. Unplug the dryer and open it up and visually have a look inside. Water may have shorted something and you will spot it. Remove and replace any shorted wire or component. If there is nothing visually wrong, you will need to do a continuity check with a multimeter on the parts in your dryer to find the fault. Let us know what you find.
