My top load washing machine won't spin on spin cycle and it makes noise but does nothing and it smells like something burning.
I have a 12 yr old GE Profile Prodigy top load washer that won't spin.
I unplugged it and re plugged it back in after 30 min. I ran a ex small load and it agitated, drained but wouldn't spin, just made noise.
Last month I replaced the electrical panel because the start button stopped working.

Might be a good idea to check on the wiring behind the panel where you replaced the start button. No spin but will agitate could be a pulley or belt issue. Also, have you checked your lid switch? It may be electrically fried or mechanically broken. The burning smell could be a belt, the motor, or an electrical component. Is the smell of rubber, electrical, or?
