My washer won't spin. With the unit unplugged should should the transmission pulley be able to turn in both directions freely by hand?

Maytag washer. model # is LAT9420AAE washer wont spin. With the machine unplugged, should the transmission pully be able to turn 360 degrees freely in both directions when i manually turn it by hand. Right now it will turn 360 degrees in one direction but not in the other. The motor pully spins when when I set the dial to spin. Thank you for your assistance.

Some washers are different, what is the make and model number of your washer? If it is a top load then more than likely you need a new lid switch.
