The washer on normal cycle will wash and then stops without draining or spinning. I put it on the drain/spin cycle, most of the water is out except for a few inches at the bottom. The machine works on the causal or delicate cycle, drains and spins.

If the washer works on different wash modes, then most likely the timer switch is bad. We are assuming you have a top load washer. You may also have an intermittent issue with your washer lid switch. Run a few more loads on normal wash mode and observe what happens. Same thing every time?
