Washer cycle memory

I have a Whirlpool top-loading washing machine, model WTW4815EW1 with the serial number C61930657. I've noticed that if I start the machine and leave the lid open for an extended period while loading laundry, the washer automatically drains the water without completing a wash cycle. This issue persists even if I unplug the machine for 15 minutes and then plug it back in, as it continues to drain. Is there a method to reset the washer's cycle memory to prevent it from automatically draining the water in such situations? Thank you for your assistance.
