My Whirlpool washing machine spins very slowly during the spin cycle but drains fine. It made a metallic squeak sound a couple of times. I replaced the coupling once (From all plastic to metal reinforced type) but that has been a few years now.

Your washer motor may be a variable speed. There may be bad windings or brushes or a similar problem with the motor making it not spin the drum fast enough.
