I also tried a master reset of unplugging, closing 6x/12 seconds; no change: I think the machine is 20+ years old.
I also washed a down comforter in the machine last time, and it leaked some feathers, but there has been no overflow.
The reset level button works, putting more water in the machine. But that's all the response I get.
The lid switch appears to click normally. Any next steps? Will not spin, hums. Lid switch ok. Easy fix?

Most likely the drain pump is clogged. You probably did not burn up the motor or pump by overloading it but the pump is probably jammed leading to all the other issues. Remove the drain pump hose from back and see if possibly that is clogged before opening the washer up to see if the drain is jammed. You will most likely have to open the machine up and clear the clogged pump.
