My defy top loader washing machine is washing but will not completely drain the water and wont spin. I also could smell something burning slightly. Is there a way for me to rectify the problem?

The machine will only spin if the drainage is working. SO CHECK PUMP!

If it has a burning smell it is probably the belt causing all of your above problems. You could also check the wires to the pump. It could be a wire broke off the lug on the pump side. Could be from all the vibration from the drum turning at high speeds. The machine will only spin if the drainage is working. So knowing that it should help you to troubleshoot!
