I have a maytag A506 series 2, the spin cycle was malfunctioning so I replaced the drive and clutch belts. This did not remedy the situation. When I manually able to add tension to the belts, by pulling the motor away from them, I am able to get the tub to spin, however if I let go, the motor begins to smoke. What are my next steps? Please advise.

By adding extra tension to the belts, you are making the motor work extra hard to spin therefore it is overheating. The problem may be something besides the belts and motor. It may be possible the motor is shot but most likely something is preventing the tub from spinning. Have you checked every component to be sure there are no broken parts?
