I have a Maytag Neptune Dryer (model MDG5500AWW) thats been giving me issues.
Dryer starts normal then starts clicking/smelling and laboring to a halt (even when empty).
It does not immediately restart but does eventually after seemingly cooling down but repeats this cycle.
As far as what i tried i changed the belt thinking it may be slipping (bc of the smell mainly) but this wasn't the issue.
I cleaned out the inside a bit then greased the pulleys but still the same issue.
Blower fan rotates fine.
I even ran the motor with the drum and belt removed and it still repeats the process of shutting down.
My best guess would be the motor is overheating and needs replacing based on the combo of deductive reasoning and especially the test run without the drum.
Is there any chance it's anything other than the motor? Such as something electronic?
I feel the thermal gauge wouldn't be a factor given the solo motor test.
Just want to make sure that i don't waste money on a motor then find out it's the one thing i didn't think of or wasn't able to test.
If there is anyone who may recommend to me a place to get fairly priced motors if that is the likely culprit. Thanks for any and all help
