My 36 year old GE side by side does not auto defrost (dE light keeps blinking) it is still running and cooling. The problem is that the Refrigerator I want to replace it with will not deliver for 1 month. For now long can I nurse this one along? Local delivery is down to two not very appealing choices and even these take two weeks.
Since the refrigerator runs constantly I've been turning it off manually for about 4 hours a day. However it still cools both the freezer and refrigerator.
