Refrigerator is tripping GFCI outlet

Appliance Repair QuestionsCategory: RefrigeratorsRefrigerator is tripping GFCI outlet

I have a Maytag refrigerator that is 10 years old (almost to the date).  It stopped working, so I purchased a replacement to save my food.  After investigating the Maytag, it was uncovered that the fan in the freezer stopped working preventing cold air from circulating.  This has since been replaced and the refrigerator cools fine now.  I moved it from the kitchen, non-GFCI outlet into the garage.  The garage has a GFCI outlet.  Now, this refrigerator keeps "tripping" the GFCI outlet during the defrost cycle.  It is a 15 amp GFCI outlet.  What do I do?  This seems to be a common problem.
