My whirlpool high efficiency top load washer (WTW4950xw0) will not agitate or spin

The problem starts in the sensing phase. It seems to not be able to sense the load in the washer. It also makes a different noise than what it normally does in the sensing phase. It will run water continuously but keeps locking and unlocking while doing so. I checked the belt and while it wasn't broken there was a lot of oil on it and the cover for the belt. Please help, I really don't want to have to call a repairman.
